Cashback on pretty much everything

This has had a little mention on Baby-saver before, but it really does warrant its own post.

Using cashback sites like Topcashback.com or Quidco can save you an absolute fortune on your online spending.

They are sites that you become members of by entering your usual details. You then simply earn cashback whenever you use their site to make a purchase.

There is an exhaustive list of retailers hooked up to these sites - anyone from Banks to Boots to Penguin Books. Even Expedia are on there.

The latest cashback we received was for Snapfish.com, to order photos of our little lad's birthday party. They give us 5% on prints, which is a bit of a saving indeed.

All you need to do is this:

1. Login to the site (we use Topcashback.com)
2. Search the site for whatever you're going to be purchasing
3. Follow the click through button to your site
4. Hey presto, money back on your purchase!

Ok, the money back isn't instant, it can take a few weeks.

At Baby-saver towers, it makes us over £100 a year - not bad for just going 'click, click.'

Baby safety reins - why so unfashionable?

Babysaver towers is a little confused as to the current mood against baby safety reins.

The accepted mood of mother and baby forums (fora?) at the moment seems to be that baby reins are 'demeaning' to both mother and child, implying that there is some correlation to using reins as you would a lead with a dog.


We know we're human (apart from after a night of sheer sleep deprivation) and the children know they're human (most of the time)  - so what's the problem?

Upon reading an article in the Times, the journalist explores a few reasons why she is uneasy with safety reins, and in part puts it down to wanting to be her daughter's friend and not fetter her, and being 'a bit snobby' about them.

At Babysaver towers, we'd love to know why you would feel snobby about such things - after all, they're just designed to help keep your child safe, aren't they?

It's nothing to do with them costing a fiver, is it?

Make your own shakers

At last!

A use for old moisturiser tubs.

At baby saver towers, we've noticed our little lad's fondness for moisturiser tubs. They are a great size for little hands, and oh boy does he like to play with them!

A good way to re-use these little gems is to wash them out, dry them and add two tablespoons of dried pearl barley, dried peas or dried lentils.

Hey presto, you have great little shaker for little hands!

Contradictory post!

Ok - so this absolutely contradicts my last post about how good TK Maxx are for baby sleeping bags.

We have returned triumphant from a Barnardos shopping trip, with two summer Gro Bags for £9. 

This absolutely wipes the floor with anything that the mighty Maxx could offer. 

It goes to reinforce the value of buying second hand or 'nearly new' baby gear - the savings are so substantial, your reason for not doing so would have to be compelling.

You don't feel so bad, giving your hard earned cash to Barnardos, either.

Baby sleeping bags

Has anyone noticed how warm its getting at night?

If your anywhere nearer the equator than me, you're probably already going to sleep draped in a mosquito net.

Anyway!

If you're on the lookout for new baby sleeping bags for the summer, a really (really) good place to check out right now is TK Maxx.

They consistently have the best quality, cheapest sleeping bags out there.

They stock the market leader (Gro bag) as well as some continental sounding, robust bags that take a good washing machine bashing.

It's definitely worthwhile taking a look, but go early as the best ones tend to go quickly.

Now, where's my summer bedsocks?

Rant about Boots marketing

Ok, I may go on a bit of a rant here, so here goes!

I have just received a flyer through the post from Boots. I love Boots - it is an oasis of girliness in a harsh, harsh world.

However, their Parenting Club magazine has a claim that their talking toys will 'turbo-boost those talking and listening skills.'

Grrrrrrr.

Heaven's above - do they really think that we believe that?

Learning about talking and listening with a plastic toy instead of with real people. How has the human race got thus far without such things before?

I'm off to stamp about and complain to my little lad's talking bus.
