Muslin cloths reborn

Once you're past the constant sicky sicky sickiness of the first few months (and for us, there was a lot of sick), what on earth do you do with all of those muslin cloths that you bought at the start?

It's always worth having a few knocking around the house and in the pram in case of emergency, but otherwise the following trick has save us a small fortune over the last few months.

Instead of buying cotton wool pads, I have been using the muslin cloths to remove make up, and oh boy do they do the trick!

I remembered from my glorious, frivolous time before having a baby that the likes of Eve Lom and Liz Earle recommend using them with their cleansers at the end of the day.

By using your regular cleanser, soaking the cloth in hot water and throwing it on your face for a minute, a bizarre amount of grime comes off, much more so than with regular cleansing wipes.

If you are really stuck for money and have run out of cleanser, olive oil (or I imagine any kind like it) is an excellent alternative. Used with the muslin cloth, there's no trace of oil left on your skin afterwards.

As long as they're dried out, you can use them again for a few days and then throw them in your hot wash. The make up washing right out and you always have a supply of them knocking around.

It does save a tidy sum, even if you buy budget cotton wool pads (like we did).
