For those brave souls who have ventured into the world of Washable Nappies, I take my hat off to you. I have chickened out of it, despite buying the equipment while pregnant. It seemed like such a good idea…
Anyway, I did a ridiculous amount of research into where to get the best value washable nappies.
I thought that a universal size would help cut down the cost of having to buy different sizes, and so found 60cm x 60cm terry nappies from Amazon to be the best value with good reviews:
They also stock flushable nappy liners very cheaply (on the same page). These liners would also stop you from having to handle too much poo.
There’s also a company called cleangreennappy.co.uk who run a price match promise. They have a wide variety of styles and discounts on right now.
Although we don’t use our terry squares as nappies, they are fantastic general mopper-uppers to have in the house (baby reflux = mopping reflex).
Some cities also run ‘nappy fairs’ where washed, used nappies are sold by parents who can also often give advise about using washables. Try Googling ‘nappy fair’ or contact your local National Childbirth Trust group for more info.
Does anyone have any further tips on saving on washables? Please comment below!
Have also chickened out of washable nappies, until the hot summer anyway.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I discovered that if you leave a light blue vest in the washing machine then wash the nappies on a hot wash, the blue from the vest makes the whites super bright - even better than using a bleachy detergent! And better for the environment too.
Also, bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar in the machine softens the water nicely and conditions the nappies better than a commercial softener. Just add about a tablespoon of bicarb to the softener compartment and a good slug of vinegar on top (it will fizz like the clappers) and Bob's your uncle.
ReplyDeleteI am not a nappy bore usually, by the way.
This is a great idea for a blog!
Brilliant, Jenny!
ReplyDeleteThanks for yoru tips, especially the bicarb and vinegar idea!
Does it clog up the drawer, at all?
